Broadcast live on Radio Blue Mountains 89.1 FM, Ilana shines a loving spotlight on carers in our community—the unsung heroes who give so much without asking for anything in return. Whether you're a parent, a partner, a friend, or a neighbor offering care to someone in need, this episode is a tribute to you. With warmth, empathy, and her signature blend of storytelling and soul, Ilana shares a moving personal encounter sparked by her beloved rescue dog, Big Bob, whose intuitive nature leads to a serendipitous meeting with a carer—a woman quietly tending to her husband with Alzheimer’s.

Through her reflective monologue and musical interludes from legends like Fleetwood Mac, Roberta Flack, and Tracy Chapman, Ilana offers comfort, joy, and connection to listeners tuning in from all walks of life.

Matters of the Heart – Resilience, Love, and the Lessons from Rescue Animals

In this heartfelt episode of Matters of the Heart, host Alana Daniel explores the transformative power of love, resilience, and the incredible lessons we learn from rescue animals. On this rainy Blue Mountains morning, Alana reflects on the beauty of rain—a rarity in her years living in the Middle East—and the joy it brings her now.

Matters of the Heart – Episode: The Hidden Scars of Bullying

Originally aired on January 23, 2025

In this heartfelt and deeply resonant episode of Matters of the Heart, host Ilana Danielle invites listeners into a compassionate and powerful conversation about the lasting impact of bullying. Broadcasting every Thursday from 9–10 a.m. on Radio Blue Mountains 89.1FM, Matters of the Heart is a space where honesty, empathy, and courage come together—and this week’s topic is no exception.

Ilana begins by sharing her fascination with the mental, spiritual, physical, and emotional elements that shape our experience of the world—and of heartbreak. Whether the pain comes from loss, rejection, or trauma, Ilana holds space for healing and transformation, offering listeners the chance to reflect, reconnect, and rise.

This episode tackles bullying in its many forms—cyber, schoolyard, workplace—and its devastating toll on children and adults alike. With warmth and candour, Ilana shares powerful statistics from Australian and global studies, alongside a personal story from her childhood that speaks to the importance of standing up and speaking out. She highlights the trauma survivors often carry into adulthood, affecting their careers, relationships, and mental health.

Ilana uplifts the idea that pain, when transformed, can lead to purpose—like artists, musicians, and social workers who’ve turned their experiences into songs, stories, and services of healing. Think Janis Joplin, channeling her own trauma into music that still resonates today.

Whether you’ve experienced bullying, witnessed it, or even acted it out, this episode invites empathy, forgiveness, and a collective commitment to change. “Let’s be real, raw, and rebellious,” says Ilana. “Not an uprising of hate—an uprising of love.”

Tune in for music that heals, stories that connect, and a movement toward heart-centered change.

SUPPORT THE KIDS WITH CANCER FOUNDATION THIS CHRISTMAS.

Next time you’re listening to RBM, please keep an ear out for our promotion detailing how you can support Blue Mountains Police Area Command (BMPAC) and their community initiative in support of the Kids With Cancer Foundation Australia.

The Kids With Cancer Foundation supplies care packs with snacks, treats and toys to children and their families who are in hospital being treated for cancer. About 550 of these packs are distributed across Australia each month so the demand for items that would delight a child, is high.

The Kids With Cancer Foundation supplies care packs at a cost of $20.00 a pack. That equates to $11,000 a month.

Our local Blue Mountains Police are running a campaign to have items suited to the Care Pack to be donated by the Blue Mountains community, creating savings for The Kids With Cancer Foundation. Savings which can then be applied to other projects, such as the supply of wigs for children undergoing chemotherapy, funds to support the Family Portal which assists with urgent bills for families, research into developing a vaccine for brain cancer and the training of doctors to become specialist Oncologists.

Donations have already been gratefully received by BMPAC and can be dropped off at Katoomba or Springwood Police Stations in time for Christmas. If you would like a list of suitable items to donate, email Chief Inspector Sims on 33211@police.nsw.gov.au
